How to Run an Editorial Meeting
Set & Communicate Goals
It's important to tell your reporters and producers what an editorial meeting is, and what it is not.
- It is not a forum for self-promotion, competition, or complaints.
- It is a way to share story ideas, and see what sticks.
After that, the goal shifts to prioritizing story assignments, and deploying people.
Listeners should be the guiding force behind all decisions in the editorial meeting. The stories selected should be stories listeners want to hear. Reporters and producers should know coming into a meeting that they need to be flexible with their schedules and editorial interests to meet the needs of listeners.
