Thinking Outside the Box When You're Looking for Resources
The key to solving the Monday Morning Dilemma is planning ahead!
- Preview the Issues
Assign a reporter on Wednesday to produce a setup spot or issue story for Monday morning. Metro politics and policy are great issue preview stories. Reporters can scour hearing agendas for specific ideas. Producers can line up a key decision-maker for a host interview. If you have beat reporters, ask them to preview what's likely to be the hot topic of debate in the coming week. - Establish a Newsroom Planning Calendar
Get your reporters in the habit of noting next step dates for stories they produce. If you have interns, have them clip articles that have future news pegs. It's a great way for your rookies to learn "what is news?" But most of all, do not wait until Friday to think about Monday. Remember: "Wednesday is the new Monday."
