How a ME Producer Changes Mornings

Rick Mattioni of WVTF in Roanoke VA reports on how a producer helps with the daily presentation of your most important program…

"You called on a good day, because this morning is a great example of what a producer can do.

"A producer can really make a difference in the way Monday morning sounds. We have people working over the weekend, producing stories for air, and this morning we ended up with too many stories and some of the material had become outdated. Our producer was able to edit the audio so we had well-produced stories for air. If it had just been the host, he probably would have had to just dump the stories that were outdated instead of editing and updating them.

"Also, we have two services, and this morning our second news/talk service went down. Our producer got on the phone with the engineer, and stayed on the phone for an hour working on the problem. Just imagine what that would be like if it was just your host - he or she has about two minutes at a time, every ten minutes, to deal with something like that. Just having an extra body in the building is really helpful when you have a major technicall issue."
