Morning Edition Producer - Job Description

Produce the local portions of the Morning Edition news magazine on XXXX. Work with the host of the program to assure all required programming elements are included each day. Work in both journalism and production/promotion areas to assure local program meets network quality standards.

Journalism

This candidate must have superb writing skills and solid news judgment and must know how to put production values to great use.

This candidate must also be able to cultivate sources, book and edit two-way interviews for inclusion in the program.

This position is responsible for the generation of story ideas and the research and development of such story ideas; and feature reports

This position requires accurate and comprehensive writing, communication skills and the ability to work effectively during periods of extreme pressure while maintaining composure. Experience maintaining high journalistic standards under deadline pressure, including standards of objectivity, balance and fairness. Experience working in and/or knowledge of public radio and the public radio system.

Production

This candidate must have demonstrated skills in audio production using digital audio production software.

Must have samples of broadcast writing for promotional or commercial purposes.

Requirements for this position include Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field or equivalent; and six months experience in on-air radio or television.

A minimum of one year of journalism experience, preferably in a broadcast setting.

Have clear and excellent writing skills, as well as a critical ear.

At this point a station must consider, according to its staffing needs, what the ME producer will do the rest of his/her day. Some are reporters. Some work on the next day's Morning Edition.
