April 2007 Update - Background
To lay the groundwork for the project, the MEGS team analyzed how Morning Edition is presented on almost fifty stations around the country. This analysis showed there is a wide range of how the program is presented by stations.

"What the MEGS workshop did for us is bring some friendly outside pressure on our station's operations. We know that there are problems with our presentation of Morning Edition, but because we don't want to hurt some people's feelings, management has let it slide. So the main benefit of MEGS was to hold up a mirror and allow us to see that our local radio product is nowhere near NPR standards. And the excuses that we tell ourselves for this are unacceptable." - MEGS Pilot Station
